Three creatives will speak about their current practice, the choices they've been making, and the direction they want to go in as PLATFORM's funded activity comes to an end.
PLATFORM started as a series of events for Leicester creatives to meet each other, share work and learn from people already working in the industry. Over the last 18 months we’ve held short film showcases via Short PLATFORM, pitching nights, idea development and business labs and talks with commissioners, writers, directors, art critics, producers and artists.
People who met through PLATFORM have started collaborating outside the programme. New projects have appeared. People have found crews, collaborators, confidence and, in some cases, a reason to keep going with work that can often feel financially and emotionally unsustainable.
For this event, three creatives from the PLATFORM community will talk about the work they’re making now and what it actually feels like trying to sustain a creative practice in 2026. The good bits, the exhausting bits, the uncertainty, the side jobs, the small wins. We’ll also revisit some of the advice shared by past PLATFORM guests over the last year and a half and ask what still feels useful now.
Our current funding for PLATFORM has come to an end, which feels strange to say out loud. But before we figure out what happens next, we wanted to take a moment to acknowledge what this community has become and its potential. We’re hoping this is the start of another chapter rather than the end of one, and we want the people who’ve built this community to help shape wherever it goes next.

The season comes to a close with a live transmission of American composer Gabriela Lena Frank’s first opera, a magical-realist portrait of Mexico’s painterly power couple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.
On May 30, the Metropolitan Opera’s 2025-26 Live season comes to a close with a live transmission of American composer Gabriela Lena Frank’s first opera, a magical-realist portrait of Mexico’s painterly power couple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, with libretto by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz.
Fashioned as a reversal of the Orpheus and Euridice myth, the story depicts Frida, sung by leading mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard, leaving the underworld on the Day of the Dead and reuniting with Diego, portrayed by baritone Carlos Álvarez. The famously feuding pair briefly relive their tumultuous love, embracing both the passion and the pain before bidding the land of the living a final farewell.
Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the Met-premiere staging of Frank’s opera, a “confident, richly imagined score” (The New Yorker) that “bursts with color and fresh individuality” (Los Angeles Times). The vibrant new production, taking enthusiastic inspiration from Frida and Diego’s paintings, is directed and choreographed by Deborah Colker.

An electrifying journey into the heart of the rave revolution, from the first illegal beats in England to its global explosion. Late 80s, and a generation suffocated by unemployment and Margaret Thatcher’s policies found refuge and a voice in music.
More than a genre. More than a scene. A legacy that still beats.
Late 80s. In an England suffocated by unemployment and Margaret Thatcher’s policies, a generation found refuge and a voice in music. In abandoned factories and secret fields, underground raves were born—explosions of light and sound where thousands of young people escaped social oppression to the rhythm of a new musical genre: breakbeat.
Fusing the raw intensity of Detroit techno, the warmth of Chicago house, and the energy of New York hip hop, breakbeat shattered all the rules. Syncopated rhythms, powerful basslines, and limitless production fueled by samplers and synthesizers gave birth to a sound that was not just danced to—it was an act of rebellion.
Rave Culture – A New Era is an electrifying journey into the heart of the rave revolution, from the first illegal beats in England to its global explosion. Through never-before-seen archival footage, interviews with the most underground pioneers, and a soundtrack that still resonates today, this documentary unveils the story of a movement that transformed music, culture, and the very essence of nightlife.

A Coens' deep-cut, this meticulous screwball comedy is a dark, quirky, and loving tribute to the films of Frank Capra and Preston Sturges.
A Coens' deep-cut, this meticulous screwball comedy is a dark, quirky, and loving tribute to the films of Frank Capra and Preston Sturges. Set in a fantastically stylised New York of stunning Gothic-Art Deco design and co-written with Sam Raimi, the film stars Tim Robbins as the irrepressibly chipper Norville Barnes. He’s a lowly mailclerk with a big dream: To sell the world’s first Hula Hoop… you know, for kids!

The Coens’ Minnesota masterpiece bagged the brothers their first Oscar win. Heavily pregnant Chief of Police Marge Gunderson (McDormand) is hot on the tail of dangerously inept kidnappers across the frozen plains of the Midwest.
