Start off the Halloween weekend with a bang!

Come through to the Apittame Arts special screening of I Love Boosters on Fri 30 Oct at 7.30pm.

There will be DJ Mojo spinning decks before the screening, and phenomenal poetry performances from Lena Ngoujo and Kamisha in the screen before the film.

The riotous new film from Boots Riley (Sorry to Bother You) sees a crew of professional shoplifters take aim at a cutthroat fashion maven in order to sell the haute couture items on the streets. As one of the crew puts it, “It’s like community service”. The fantastic cast includes Keke Palmer (One of Them Days), Naomi Ackie (Mickey 17), Demi Moore, and Will Poulter (Warfare) who’s on hilarious form as a preening fashionista.

ARTIST BIOS:

LENA N

Lena is a multidisciplinary artist driven by her obsession with undressing the raw beauty of the bare self through the complexities of self-expression and the merging realms intersecting culture and identity. Her craft focuses on untangling Black expression and the strangeness of humanity amongst nature, often juxtaposing the joys and pains of life. Stirring a mixture of Performance, Spoken Word Poetry, and Multimedia art to create multi-sensory experiences that challenge Traditional Western ideology and Contemporary Art forms.

KAMISHA

Kamisha is a local poet who utilizes her poetry to invoke her voice for healing and sharing with others. She writes about mother nature, unity, connection with self and others as well as some story telling and her queer journey. Kamisha has performed at various poetry events across Leicester.

DJ BIO

Mojo is an eclectic selector with a lifelong obsession with sound. Raised in a home where music was always playing, she grew up glued to her parents’ record player. That early curiosity evolved into a serious itch to DJ, one she finally scratched by starting with the tiniest of controllers, but driven by huge love and respect for the craft. For Friday’s screening, expect a playful mix of R&B, electronic grooves and left-field club sounds, with unexpected turns along the way.

Apittame Arts was founded in 2019 the purpose being to create community through creativity, delivering workshops, screenings and community based events to help bring people together.
