A breathtaking exploration of queer desire where the stakes could not be higher, surrounded by war, death, and the violence of masculinity.

“Dhont has a tactile, compassionate sense of how men watch other men, and Coward, by turns breathtakingly violent and sweetly, shiveringly sensual, thrives on that understanding.” – Variety.

Award-winning director Lukas Dhont (Girl, Close) returns with a moving drama depicting a tender romance that blossoms between two young men in the trenches of WWI. Pierre (Emmanuel Macchia), a young Belgian soldier, joins the foot soldiers fighting on the Western Front in 1916. There he meets Francis (Valentin Campagne), a leading member of a cabaret troupe who perform for the soldiers. The two men could not be more opposite, but something compels them towards one another. A breathtaking exploration of queer desire where the stakes could not be higher, surrounded by war, death, and the violence of masculinity.
