A decade before the British New Wave, Robert Hamer set the benchmark for the likes of Tony Richardson and Lindsay Anderson with this downbeat thriller set on the bombed-out streets of post-war London.

Playing out over a single, rain-soaked Sunday, housewife Rose is caught between her dull, loveless marriage and her charismatic former lover, Tommy. Rose is faced with a moral dilemma when Tommy, on the run from the law, re-enters her life seeking help in a film that pairs the darkness and thrills of film noir with a gritty sense of social realism.
