We're pleased to announce that the speaker at our first PLATFORM Artist Network event will be artist-producer, project manager, and fundraiser Sean Carroll of New Media Art Club.
In 2024, AI is the end of art. It’s writing stories, painting portraits, composing music – and sparking anxiety. For many, it feels like a looming threat, a faceless machine poised to replace creativity with algorithms.
But what if it's not?
In this talk entitled "How to Destroy the Art World and Build Something Nicer – With AI", Sean Carroll will discuss career paths in the arts alongside a provocation to rethink how art is learned, made, and valued. We’ll explore some assumptions about creativity, ideas about talent and access, and ask how they’ve shaped a system that often feels closed and unkind.
We’ll ask whether the key benefit of AI is perhaps not that it does the work for us, but that it might empower us to work in new and better ways, breaking down barriers that have held many back.
We'll also consider how AI might redefine the future of work in the arts, change education and open up deeper creative possibilities for artists to explore.
Sean Carroll is an artist-producer, project manager, and fundraiser with over a decade of experience in events like Bring The Paint, An Indian Summer, Art AI festival, (DAM) Digital Art Month, New Media Art Club, and the upcoming Computala. He specialises in securing funding, logistics and team coordination, having previously received backing from Arts Council England, UK Space Agency, BFI and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
