When thirteen year-old Theo loses his mother in a terrorist bombing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art it changes the course of his life, sending him on a stirring odyssey of grief, guilt, reinvention and redemption. Through it all he holds on to one tangible piece of hope from that terrible day- the Goldfinch, a priceless painting of a tiny bird chained to its perch that he stole in the aftermath of the bombing.
