With Earth in a state of environmental Armageddon, giant interstellar cruise liners are constructed to shuttle the remnants of humanity in luxury to their new home on Mars. On one such liner, a woman known only as MR helps passengers adjust to their new life using AI to immerse themselves in memories of earlier, better times. But when a disaster leaves the ship hopelessly adrift in space and people are losing all hope, MR will become the only link between the survivors and what remains of their humanity.

Based on the poem of the same name by Swedish Nobel laureate Harry Martinson, Aniara embraces the existential possibilities of science fiction to produce a masterful, contemporary sci-fi classic.
