Festival of Social Science: Hereditary (15)

Ari Aster's terrifying nightmare vision of intergenerational trauma is presented alongside a talk about maternal horror, paranoia, and why families are scary.

The ESRC Festival of Social Science is back and University of Leicester's Dr Jess Urwin and Dr Laurie Parsons are once again using this as an excuse to kick off your Halloween celebrations! This year, we're pairing a free screening of Ari Aster's terrifying Hereditary with a talk about maternal horror, paranoia, and why families are scary. Plus, you'll get a copy of a new issue of It’s Spooked! zine, created specifically for this event.

Hereditary

Following the death of her mother, Annie and her children begin to uncover ominous secrets about their family and heritage. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited. This thrilling, disquieting horror was Ari Aster's debut feature, unleashing a disturbing and compelling nightmare vision of intergenerational trauma.
