In postwar Kyoto, a troubled youth arrives at Shukaku Temple seeking spiritual purpose as an apprentice monk. Despite the temple’s divine beauty, he soon finds himself disillusioned with the vanity, lust and hypocrisy amongst the monks. Haunted by his past and jaded by humanity and religion, his ideals soon twist into a dark obsession with devastating consequences.
