The legendary 1972 Wattstax benefit concert featuring Stax records icons including Isaac Hayes, Carla Thomas and The Staple Singers. "100,000 brothers and sisters turning on to being black... and telling it like it is!"

Staged by Stax Records to commemorate the seventh anniversary of the 1965 riots in the African-American community of Watts, Los Angeles, Wattstax is a powerful musical political statement of Black culture and resistance.

Showcasing genres from soul, gospel, R&B, blues, funk, and jazz, the concert films features some of the most inspirational artists of the time including: Rufus Thomas, The Emotions, The Bar-Keys, The Dramatics and Luther Ingram.

Compered by Rev. Jesse Jackson and comedy-icon Richard Pryor, Wattstax is a remarkable cinematic spectacular and one of the most awe-inspiring musical events of all-time.

The film will be followed by a free after-party with a DJ + dancing to kick off our Sound On Screen festival.
