Join us for our March PLATFORM Filmmaker Network event as we welcome Rico Johnson-Sinclair, Skills and Training Director at Warner Bros. Discovery.
Join us on 6 March as we welcome Rico Johnson-Sinclair, Skills and Training Director at Warner Bros. Discovery. Leading CrewHQ, a skills and training centre based at the renowned Warner Bros. Studio Leavesden, Rico is dedicated to developing and nurturing ‘below-the-line’ crew while embedding inclusion into training and skills from the outset.
After working with Flatpack Festival in Birmingham, Rico founded CineQ, a queer film festival prioritising queer and trans, Black and Indigenous people, and people of colour. Now in its sixth year, CineQ continues to centre underrepresented voices. Throughout his career, Rico has upheld an audience-first ethos, recognising the screen industries' power to shape hearts and minds.
Most recently, he served as Race Equality Lead at the British Film Institute, bringing a critical perspective to conversations about race in the film industry. His work also encompassed class, disability, and gender, ensuring an intersectional approach to equitable change.
As co-director of ARTEF (the Anti-Racist Taskforce for European Film), Rico has played a key role in advancing equity in European exhibition and production, organising high-profile events at Cannes, Berlinale, and BFI London Film Festival in 2022 and 2023.
Beyond programming and exhibition, Rico consults on inclusion-focused events and works with emerging talent to amplify untold stories from historically marginalised communities. He has collaborated with organisations such as the European Film Academy and The New Black Film Collective to champion new voices in film.
