Céline Sciamma’s (Portrait of a Lady on Fire) unflinchingly humane coming-of-age drama is a powerful 21st-century story of Black female identity. Growing up in the suburbs of Paris, shy teenager Marieme begins to discover a new sense of selfhood when she falls in with a free-spirited gang of girls kicking back against their environment.
