The directorial debut of James Gunn (whose new film about a certain Man of Steel is also opening this month) is a sublimely icky body horror/alien invasion movie set in a sleepy town in South Carolina. When a meteorite crashes to earth, it brings with it a malevolent alien parasite that begins to infect the whole town, and it’s down to the long-suffering chief of police (Nathan Fillion) to save the day.
